In this activity, students make a claim about the cause of ocean currents and then develop a model to explain the role of temperature and density in deep ocean currents.  This lesson is modified from "Visit to an Ocean Planet" Caltech and NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Grade Level: 6-8

Students will watch a short video that explains albedo and how it plays an important role in Earthā€™s Energy Budget. Applying what they learned from the video, students will analyze a bar graph that lists the albedos of common surfaces found on Earth to answer critical thinking questions.

Grade Level: 6-8, 9-12

Students analyze map visualizations representing the amount of Sunā€™s energy received on the Earth as indicated by the amount that is reflected back to space, known as ā€œalbedoā€.
