Phenomena: Soil Moisture (located in the Pedosphere Soil GLOBE Resources) Data collection of soil temperature, moisture, and physical and chemical properties is invaluable to scientists in many fields: soil scientists use the data to better understand their potential for plant g
Soil moisture plays a major role in the chemical, biological and physical activities that take place in the soil. Chemically, moisture transports substances through the profile. This affects soil properties such as color, texture, pH, and fertility.
Soil Moisture GLOBE Learning Activities have been developed to provide students with a hands-on experience to guide their understanding of the properties of soil that affect the amount of moisture it will hold.
The Scoop on Soils: In this storybook, the GLOBE kids are on the trail of Scoop, an eager dog who loves to dig holes in the soil. At each hole Scoop has dug, the kids use their journals to record characteristics of the soil.
The Effect of Various Circumstances on Soil Moisture Project Overview: NASA’s SMAP satellite helps predict floods and droughts.
Soil is the great integrator storing and affecting the chemistry of water, storing and releasing heat at Earth’s surface, retaining the effects of past climate and other forces of soil formation, while providing the medium for virtually all plant growth on land.

July 2018 was the driest July in Australia since 2002. The dry month exacerbated an ongoing drought that had already ruined large swaths of grazing land and cropland.
