Conduct this modified EO Kids mini-lesson with your students to explore the phenomenon of Urban Heat Island Effect.

This activity invites students to simulate and observe the different effects on sea level from melting sea-ice.

Students analyze four data visualizations focused on the topic of sea level.  They use a jigsaw method to explore and communicate their findings to their peers.

Students watch a video introducing the concept of albedo and answer questions.

Interpret the map, or model, to find patterns in the occurrence of tropical cyclones from 1842 through 2018.

Students will review the NASA Space Place video, "Tectonic Forces", and answer questions about tectonic plates.

Students will analyze a pie chart (circle graph) showing the distribution of different parts of the Earth system's absorption and reflection of energy. 

Students will analyze a line graph that shows how the surface temperature and air temperature values change over the course of 24 hours.

This mini-lesson guides students' observations of soil moisture anomalies (how much the moisture content was above or below the norm) for the continental US in May 2018.

Students will watch a short video that explains albedo and how it plays an important role in Earth’s Energy Budget. Applying what they learned from the video, students will analyze a bar graph that lists the albedos of common surfaces found on Earth to answer critical thinking questions.
