surface “skin” temperature
Refers to the effective radiating temperature of the soil plus canopy surface. It is inferred from satellites in the 8-12 um window region. In climate models, it is the temperature used to determine upward thermal emission. The skin temperature usually shows a larger diurnal variation than the surface air temperature, a factor that needs to be considered when evaluating data/model comparisons. (source #8)
