GLOBE Connections: Solar Eclipse

GLOBE protocols and learning activities that complement exploration of solar eclipses.

Solar Eclipses

Remember to never look directly at the Sun without proper safety equipment.

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon is between the Sun and Earth, and with the right conditions, the Moon casts a shadow on Earth’s surface. The GLOBE Program's GLOBE Observer app features a temporary tool that will help you document air temperature and clouds during an eclipse. The tool is not visible in the app on a regular basis, but is only opened up when a solar eclipse is happening somewhere in the world. Information and details about the tool can be found on the What is GLOBE Eclipse? page.
