We wanted to share this great opportunity for the S’COOL Community!

Starting this weekend 2/20/2016, the Earth Science Information Partners (ESIP) will be hosting a series of 4 webinars about the newest  Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES)-R satellite specifically geared towards educators!

This is a great opportunity to learn more about the newest satellite match option added to S’COOL! In January we added GOES 13 and 15 data, allowing comparison between your ground observations and simultaneous satellite data to occur almost hourly during daylight hours. The new GOES-R Series will be the latest and greatest in detecting and observing environmental phenomena over the United States! It will have greater detail in imaging, it can “zoom in” closer than before, and it will return data every 5 minutes! And, you as S’COOL Participants will be able to receive this data right to your inbox, in a match email, only 6 month after the launch of the satellite!

The first satellite in the GOES-R series is set to launch in October 2016.  To help educators prepare for exciting new advances and products during the GOES-R era, there will be a series of webinars leading up to launch, starting on February 20th.

The webinars will take place on the following Saturday mornings at 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time.

  • Feb. 20, 2016: Satellites 101 and GOES-R Overview
  • March 12, 2016: GOES-R Lesson Plans: For Teachers, By Teachers
  • April 23, 2016: Additional GOES-R Resources and Educational Tools
  • Sept. 17, 2016: Countdown to Launch!
