Happy Anniversary to SAM!

SAM_Anniversary_Sq[1] copyThe Stratospheric Aerosol Measurement (SAM) experiment, a small instrument operated by astronaut Deke Slayton during the historic Apollo-Soyuz mission in July 1975, was the humble beginning of our orbiting aerosol study (http://www.nasa.gov/…/the-sam-experiment-launched-40-years-…). Follow-on instruments (SAM II, LIMS, and the SAGE series) have given NASA information about volcanic eruptions, polar stratospheric clouds and the ozone layer. The next instrument in the series is scheduled to launch to the International Space Station in February 2016.
