If you know someone who is interested in this information, the sign-up can be found at : http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/HPDOCS/email_registration.html *1) More new lessons! 2) New data added to the Live Access Server 3) Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. announces PolarTREC 4) Earth Science Week 2008 * *1) More new lessons!* Two interesting new lessons developed by the 2008 summer workshop group are now available on the website on the Teacher Plans page, http://mynasadata.larc.nasa.gov/User_lessons.html: /Lesson #53: March of the Polar Bears: Global Change, Sea Ice, and Wildlife Migration/ contributed by Venugopal Bhat, Seattle, Washington /Lesson #54: 1492: Using Data to Explain a Journey/ contributed by Malinda Burk, Lincoln, Nebraska Keep checking the website for updates to the lesson collection! As always, if you use a lesson in your classroom or in professional development, please send us your comments. *2) New data added to the Live Access Server* OMI Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) data has been extended through July 2008. The Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) is flying aboard NASA's Aura satellite. OMI will continue the data record for total ozone and other atmospheric parameters related to ozone chemistry and climate. The family of oxygen compounds of nitrogen (NOx) are produced by combustion and result in harmful chemical reactions that produce smog, tropospheric ozone and acid rain." (ref: MY NASA DATA Glossary) Are you looking for a lesson that uses the NO2 data? On the Teacher Plans page, take a look at / Lesson #27 Investigating Seasonal Variability in NO2 Concentrations/ contributed by Brooke Carter, Greenbelt, Maryland. *3) Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. announces PolarTREC * The PolarTREC (Teachers and Researchers Exploring and Collaborating) program, managed by the Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S., is currently accepting teacher applications for the third year of teacher research experiences. Teachers are invited to submit an application to participate in field research learning experiences during the 2009 (Arctic) or 2009-2010 (Antarctic) field seasons. Application deadline: September 29, 2008. More information and application forms are available at: http://www.polartrec.com. *4) Earth Science Week 2008 *Earth Science Week, sponsored by the American Geological Institute, will be held from October 12 – 18 with the theme “No Child Left Inside.” This year’s theme “…was selected to encourage young people to learn about the geosciences by getting away from the television, off the computer, and out of doors.” (ref: Earth Science Week website).
