Greetings MY NASA DATA Alumni and Newslist members! The monthly E-note is sent to anyone who is interested in learning more about or keeping up to date with the MY NASA DATA project. If you know someone who is interested in this information, the sign-up can be found at: http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/HPDOCS/email_registration.html *Special Note!! Our e-mail address is changing! To contact the MY NASA DATA team, please use mynasadata@lists.nasa.gov. * *1) New data 2) New lessons 3) New project ideas 4) Earth Science Week 5) NSTA regional conference in Detroit 6) Workshop participants in the news!* *1) New data* Recent work by NASA and other scientists has extended the Monthly Tropospheric Ozone Residual (TOR) dataset through 2005. TOR is the amount of ozone detected in the lowest layer of the atmosphere called the troposphere. It is derived by a special multi-satellite observation method which subtracts the stratospheric ozone amount from the total column ozone amount, leaving a "residual". The TOR dataset now covers 1979 to 2005. The increased observations assist in the analysis of long-term trends and inter-annual variability. To locate the TOR data, click on Air Quality under Atmosphere in the LAS Advanced Edition, then click on Monthly Tropospheric Ozone Residual TOR. To view the list of Air Quality parameters, visit http://mynasadata.larc.nasa.gov/las/servlets/dataset?catitem=4. *2) New lessons* Take a few minutes to check out the first of the new lessons from the MY NASA DATA 2007 Workshop group: / Lesson #27: Investigating Seasonal Variability in NO2 Concentrations/, by Brooke Carter, Greenbelt, Maryland. Keep checking the Lessons page for new additions! As you try the lessons, please let us know how things go. As always, suggestions are welcome! *3) New project ideas* Have your students started their science research projects? Before helping them with their project photos, you may want to look at the suggestions offered in the two new Projects Ideas on the Projects page, http://mynasadata.larc.nasa.gov/science_projects.php. /Have Fun Doing Science with a Camera/ and /Doing Science with a Camera/ *4) Earth Science Week *Earth Science Week (http://www.earthsciweek.org) will be observed October 14-20 this year. It isn’t too late to involve your students or to order your Earth Science Week Toolkit! Visit http://www.earthsciweek.org/materials/index.html for details on how to order your set of materials. *5) NSTA regional conference in Detroit* Are you planning to attend the NSTA regional conference October 18th-20th in Detroit? Dr. Lin Chambers will present both S’COOL and MY NASA DATA. Below are the details. Maybe Lin will see you there! MY NASA DATA Oct 18 2:00-3:00 Cobo Center W2—68 S’COOL Oct 18 3:30 – 4:30 Cobo Center W2—68 NESTA Share-a-thon Oct 19 2:00-3:00 Cobo Center W1—55 *6) Workshop participants in the news!* Tara Kisiel, summer workshop 2007 participant from Chicopee, MA, was featured in the Chicopee Register upon her arrival back home from the workshop. /New Bellamy School teacher attends NASA workshop to bring science lessons to new heights By Kathleen Mitchell, Staff writer CHICOPEE - Tara Kisiel has always hated it when students ask her why they need to learn certain types of scientific principles and information. So, she has made it a point to do all she can to make her lessons real…/ (No link to the article was available.)
