MY NASA DATA E-note (Number 4) November 2006 Greetings MY NASA DATA Alumni and Newslist members! The monthly E-note is sent to anyone who is interested in learning more about or keeping up to date with the MY NASA DATA project. If you know someone who is interested in this information, the sign-up can be found at: http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/HPDOCS/email_registration.html Quick (but important) Announcement Due to a planned power outage at the Atmospheric Sciences Data Center, the MY NASA DATA website will be down from noon Thursday, November 9 through early morning Sunday, November 13. Science Projects Three new project ideas were added to the Science Project Ideas section: PicturePost Project Ideas, Measuring Local Precipitation, and Birds and Climate. If you or your students have other ideas, please send them along! Many school districts are beginning their "science project season" and are hosting science competitions at the school and district levels, leading up to regional, state, and national competitions. If your students complete a project using atmospheric data, especially if they used data from the MY NASA DATA website, we would love to hear about it! Please consider submitting worthy projects for possible inclusion on the website! Lesson Plans The Team-contributed Lesson G, Validation of Stratospheric Ozone, has been updated based on feedback from the Earth Science Review committee, and is now posted for your use. Continue checking the website for new lessons! Comments are always welcome! We are working on a new addition to the User-contributed Lessons pages: Lesson Units. Workshop alumni who have submitted units, which contain at least three great lessons along with related implementation plans and resources, will be able to see these in their entirety very soon! Data A new data set is added to the Weekly Sea Surface Temperature parameter each week to keep this parameter up to date. Questions for this month (gentle reminder from a previous E-note): (1) Have you presented MY NASA DATA at a conference or professional development venue? Please let us know! A few details would be appreciated. (2) Have you used a lesson or data set from MY NASA DATA? Again, please let us know how it went. Summer 2007 Workshop Plans continue for the Summer 2007 Teacher Workshop for teachers of grades 6-12. The dates of our next summer workshop are July 29 - August 3, 2007. The applications will be due on April 30th. More details will be announced on the website with posting of the application. We'll announce that in a future E-note. If you know someone who would benefit from this workshop, please share the information with them.
