*MY NASA DATA E-note (Number 22) May 2008* *Greetings MY NASA DATA Alumni and Newslist members!* The monthly E-note is sent to anyone who is interested in learning more about or keeping up to date with the MY NASA DATA project. If you know someone who is interested in this information, the sign-up can be found at: http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/HPDOCS/email_registration.html *1) Another great lesson!* Another interesting lesson contributed by the Summer Workshop 2007 participants has been added to the Teacher Plans section of the Lessons page: /#45: Radiation Comparison Before and After 9-11/, by Catherine Ryan, Houston, TX. With the addition of this lesson, all of the lessons contributed by the 2007 Summer Workshop group have been posted. Congratulations and a huge Thank You! to the 2007 workshop alumni on their contributions to the Lessons collection! *2) New Live Access Server with added output features! *You may have noticed a new version of the Live Access Server (LAS) (http://mynasadata.larc.nasa.gov/las.armstrong/servlets/dataset) that is now available from the data access page. The Armstrong version of the LAS is a user interface that provides lots of new output options including two Google Earth interfaces. Note that you must install Google Earth on your computer to view the new Google Earth outputs. Another new output feature is the interactive color plot. After the initial plot is displayed, click and drag your cursor to form a box around the area of interest and LAS will drill down and show the selected area. LAS Armstrong is still a new product and definitely needs testing. We are hoping some of you will have time to try it out and let us know what you think. If you e-mail us your constructive comments concerning the new LAS (Armstrong version), the MY NASA DATA team would like to send you a letter of appreciation, appropriate for a professional portfolio, as a “Thank You” for your assistance. This collaborative effort is very important to the improvement of the new LAS! *3) New additions to the Science Basics page* Check out the new additions to the Science Basics page, under Weather/Climate Related Links http://mynasadata.larc.nasa.gov/weather.html. Included is a link to a new resource developed at NASA LaRC, Meteorology: An Educator's Resource for Inquiry-Based Learning for Grades 5-9, by Dr. Joseph Exline, Dr. Joel Levine, and Dr. Arlene Levine. *4) Read an ARCTAS researcher’s blog for the Discovery Channel *Have you noticed the new image featured on the homepage? Just click on the image to link to a Discovery Channel blog maintained by Mike Obland, one of the NASA LaRC Science Directorate researchers working on the Arctic Research of the Composition of the Troposphere from Aircraft and Satellites (ARCTAS) mission. ARCTAS is aimed at learning more about the state of the Arctic atmosphere and reporting on the changes that have occurred as a result of pollution.
