Greetings MY NASA DATA Alumni and Newslist members! The monthly E-note is sent to anyone who is interested in learning more about or keeping up to date with the MY NASA DATA project. If you know someone who is interested in this information, the sign-up can be found at: http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/HPDOCS/email_registration.html 1) The Lesson Plans page has a new look! Thank you, teachers! Because we now have so many teacher-contributed lessons, and because of the request for related activities, the Lesson Plans page has been reorganized to feature links to the five categories of MY NASA DATA lessons. Three new categories, Unit Plans, Activities, and a special feature on International Polar Year (IPY) Lessons, have been added. The new categories complement the Team Lesson Plans and Teacher Plans already in use. The Lesson Units, contributed by 2005 workshop alumni, include: "Scientist Tracking Network" Unit by Janell Simpson "Using Remote Sensing to Monitor the Environment" Unit by Rex Roettger "Geographical Investigations with MY NASA DATA" Unit by Margaret Chernosky Also, a new lesson has been added to the Teacher Plans collection: "Ocean Currents and Sea Surface Temperature" by Joan Carter, 2005 workshop alumnus from San Jose, CA. Take a few minutes to browse! If you use one of the lessons, please let us know how it goes. We need your feedback! 2) New Sea Level Height data added to the LAS A new set of data is now available through the LAS. The parameter, "Sea Level Height", was another dataset requested by teachers! They had noticed that the percent of water coverage (used in the lesson "Circle the Earth") seemed to vary along coastal areas. If this new dataset inspires you to develop a lesson or activity, please send us your ideas or lesson plans! Note: MY NASA DATA is accessing this data on a server at JPL in California, so you may notice that it takes longer to create output from the LAS for this parameter. 3) Question of the Month After you have looked over the newly reorganized Lessons Page, we would like to know: What is your opinion of the new layout? Strengths? Needed improvements? Other suggestions? E-mail us your thoughts!
