MY NASA DATA E-note (Number 13) Special Summer Workshop Edition August 2007 *Greetings MY NASA DATA Alumni and Newslist members!* The monthly E-note is sent to anyone who is interested in learning more about or keeping up to date with the MY NASA DATA project. If you know someone who is interested in this information, the sign-up can be found at: http://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/HPDOCS/email_registration.html *(1) Our third MY NASA DATA Summer Teacher Workshop for educators of grades 6-12 was held at NASA Langley Research Center, July 29 – August 3, 2007.* Based on comments from participants, the workshop was a success! The group also provided excellent suggestions for next year’s workshop. For this month’s E-note, we invited our participants to share their thoughts about the workshop. /The week began with a very informative trip to Jamestown. Both of our tour guides were very knowledgeable and shared many interesting facts. The exhibits were also very enjoyable. I especially enjoyed boarding the vessels. Most of the week on Center was spent in the education building. The presentations were excellent and provided insight into how teachers could incorporate S'COOL, energy budget, and of course MY NASA DATA into their instruction. The tours were also terrific. I especially enjoyed the wind tunnel tour. It is still a remarkable site after all the years since it was built. All of our tour guides throughout the week did a great job answering our questions and giving of their time. This certainly added to the experience. Perhaps the most memorable aspect of the workshop was meeting other great teachers from around the country. The bus rides to and from the Center gave us an opportunity to learn about each other. I am honored to be a part of this group. Thank you. -----Kenneth Huff Absolutely one of the greatest workshops ever............folks there cared about what I was supposed to learn. Most helpful group of mentors I have ever had contact with. Lucky me to be part of all of this. - ----Dwight Sieggreen It was exactly what I was looking for - my students generate so much raw data but we don't do much with it. That will now change. -----Todd Toth *2) New lessons to be posted in the next few months* Over the next few months, the exciting new lessons contributed by this summer’s workshop group will be reviewed and edited in collaboration with the teacher-authors, and will be posted on the website when finalized. Watch for these new lessons in the near future! With the addition of so many new lessons, we plan to reorganize the Lessons Page to make it easier to locate lessons on a particular topic. *3) MY NASA DATA workshop in the news!* Read about our workshop in the NASA News Researcher at http://www.nasa.gov/centers/langley/news/researchernews/index.html. Also, here is a great story in the Citizens Voice of Wilkes-Barre, Pa. on one of our participants, Tony Fleury. http://www.citizensvoice.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=18697111&BRD=2259&PAG=461&dept_id=455154&rfi=6 If you are featured in your local newspaper, please let us know!
